Millennials and DFW Real Estate…Never a Better Time!

Over the past few days, we’ve seen several articles referencing millennial homebuyers. Articles like…

Millennials Are All About the Online Experience-Except in Real Estate

When it comes to interacting with businesses, millennials are all about the online experience-except, a new survey shows, when in need of real estate services. Seventy-five percent of millennials recently surveyed by CentSai, a financial wellness website, would prefer to enlist the help of a local real estate agent than an online agent.

Millennial Home Buyers Far More Traditional Than Previously Believed

NEW YORK, April 18, 2017 /PRNewswire/ — When it comes to home buying, millennials are much more traditional than previously believed, according to a recent survey of 2,050 Americans aged 18 to 34 conducted by CentSai, the financial wellness community. Three-quarters (75%) of respondents said that they

Low Down Payment Programs Attracting Millennials – DSNews

Down Payment Resource reports that in January, 65 percent of first-time home buyers only put down a zero to six percent down payment, a decrease from 66 percent in December. Among all buyers whose transactions closed in January, 62 percent of those who obtained a mortgage made a down payment of less than 20 percent, the same percentage as in December.

It is truly an exciting time to be in the millennial generation.  Especially in Dallas/Fort Worth with the growth in business and housing we are experiencing.  It is a perfect storm for our DFW millennials.

We then began thinking about all of the millennials we’ve been able to help buy homes here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.  Amazing people like Tim & Claire Gautreaux…

Millennials

And if there’s one thing we’ve learned about this amazing group, it’s this: Millennials are so often misunderstood.  Even when it comes to purchasing real estate.

For example, Bankrate published an article in September of 2016 entitled 11 Must-Haves to Sell to Millennial Homebuyers. We shared this article with 5 millennials we know asking them to read and share their opinions of what they read. Across the board, they were not in agreement with the information presented in this article.

Their conclusion:  “Don’t pigeonhole millennials.  We are not predictable.”

Case in point, an article in Yahoo Finance on April 18, 2017, shared, “According to a recent survey of 2,050 Americans aged 18 to 34 conducted by CentSai, 75% of respondents said that they would use a local real estate agent instead of an online agent. Just under three-quarters (71%) said they would choose a local lender. This is in stark contrast to recent data showing approximately 69% of all home buyers would apply for a mortgage online.*”

This research surprised many in the real estate and mortgages business because they mistakenly assumed that millennials would do everything online and on their own. That simply is not the case.

At the Tomlin Team, we’ve been helping Dallas/Fort Worth millennial homebuyers for a long time.  We already know how smart they are, how much research they engage in, and the homework they do.  We love that.  And this is nothing new to us.

In fact, almost half our team is made up of millennials.  We understand millennials.  We know millennials. Because many of us ARE millennials. Millennials
